For a team hiring under 50 people a year, Workable is usually the fastest start with a published price. Lever suits teams that nurture candidates before roles open. Greenhouse suits teams ready to run structured interviews with someone owning the process. Check each contract's renewal and notice terms before you sign.

How do Greenhouse, Lever and Workable compare at a glance?
All three products can run an applicant tracking process. The differences become clearer when you look at pricing, setup demands and how much recruiting structure your team will use.
The prices and features below came from each vendor's current pricing page, checked 18 October 2026: Greenhouse, Lever and Workable. Confirm them again before signing because vendors can change their plans.
| Product | Published pricing | Best fit for a smaller team | Setup effort | Contract questions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greenhouse | Custom pricing across Core, Plus and Pro | A team that wants structured interviews, scorecards and defined hiring stages | Higher when you need to design interview kits, permissions and reporting | Ask for the term, renewal notice clause and any limits in writing |
| Lever | Custom quote, available upon request | A team that treats candidate relationships and sourcing as part of the hiring process | Depends on how much CRM data and reporting you plan to configure | Ask for the term, renewal notice clause and any usage limits in writing |
| Workable | Standard costs $299 per month for companies with 1 to 20 employees, or $3,588 per year. Premier costs $599 per month and Enterprise costs $719 per month for that band, both paid annually | A team that wants published pricing, a careers page and standard hiring workflows | Usually the quickest starting point of these three | Prices vary by company size. Ask how your price changes and what notice applies |
| Curriculo | Starter is free forever. Pro is $50 per month early-bird, 50% off the $100 list price. Enterprise is custom | A team that wants ranked candidates, written fit summaries and no per-seat fees | Set up in about 15 minutes. No credit card. | Confirm the plan limits that apply to your expected candidate volume |
Workable's Standard plan includes applicant tracking, a careers page builder, unlimited active jobs subject to fair usage limits, custom hiring pipelines, self-scheduled interviews and two-way Gmail or Microsoft 365 calendar sync. Texting, video interviews and assessments are paid add-ons on Standard. Workable Agent uses AI credits sold in bundles.
Greenhouse and Lever don't publish a fixed price. That doesn't make either a poor choice, but it prevents a clean budget comparison before a sales call. Use an ATS pricing compared worksheet and ask each vendor to put the full first-year and renewal cost in writing.
When does Greenhouse fit a small team?
Greenhouse fits when your hiring process needs more structure than your current spreadsheet or basic ATS can provide. Its Core plan includes sourcing and CRM tools, structured interview kits, scorecards, scheduling, reporting and analytics. Plus adds automation and deeper reporting. Pro adds controls such as an audit log and developer sandbox.
Those tools matter when several interviewers need to assess candidates against the same criteria. A hiring manager can work from a defined scorecard instead of sending an unstructured opinion after each interview. That can make Greenhouse a reasonable fit even below 50 annual hires if those hires involve several departments or regulated approval steps.
The tradeoff is ownership. Someone must design the stages, maintain interview kits and keep users following the process. If hiring happens in occasional bursts and one person handles most interviews, part of that structure may sit unused.
The available low-star review sample contains nine Greenhouse reviews, so it is a thin sample. It can point you toward questions for a demo, but it can't establish how most customers experience the product. The Curriculo vs Greenhouse page covers the narrower two-product comparison.
When does Lever fit a small team?
Lever positions itself as an ATS and CRM in one product. That makes it a stronger candidate for teams that build relationships with potential hires before a requisition opens. Its current pricing page also lists reporting and AI screening features.
The CRM side is useful when recruiting starts with a search rather than an application. You can keep prospects attached to future roles and preserve prior contact history. A retained search recruiter or a growing company with repeat hiring needs may value that more than a team that posts a handful of roles each year.
Lever's price is available by quote. Ask the sales team to separate required features from optional ones, then request the contract term, renewal date and notice window in writing. A feature can fit your process while the commercial terms don't.
There are ten low-star Lever reviews in the supplied sample. That is enough to identify questions about implementation, support and reporting, but not enough to describe every customer's experience. See Curriculo vs Lever for a direct product comparison.
When does Workable fit a small team?
Workable gives a smaller employer the clearest public starting price of the three. For companies with 1 to 20 employees, Standard was listed at $299 per month when checked 18 October 2026. Prices move through company size bands, so your cost may change as the business grows.
Standard includes the functions many small teams seek first: applicant tracking, a careers page builder, custom pipelines, interview scheduling and calendar sync. That defined package can shorten the buying process because you can see the starting cost and included features before contacting sales.
Look closely at add-ons. On Standard, Texting was listed at $89 per month, Video interviews at $109 per month and Assessments at $59 per month. Workable Agent uses separately purchased AI credits. Your relevant price is the package that matches your workflow, not the base subscription alone.
The supplied low-star sample includes 27 Workable reviews. Several discuss price changes, add-on costs or contract concerns. These remain individual accounts, not proof of a general pattern across all customers. The Curriculo vs Workable page provides a focused comparison.
What do low-star reviewers say about each?
These reviews help you prepare questions. They don't measure average customer satisfaction or prove that the same issue exists today.
For Greenhouse, one recruiter wrote, "We were lied to during our demo and told that Greenhouse could do things it could not. We have MAJOR buyers remorse." This was an individual Capterra opinion rated 1/5 on 7 February 2025.

Another Greenhouse reviewer wrote, "Needing to wait 10+ minutes for a candidate profile to load is unacceptable". This was an individual Capterra opinion rated 1/5 on 16 July 2024.

For Lever, an owner wrote, "Never got this up and going and never could get anyone to respond." This was an individual Capterra opinion rated 1/5 on 8 December 2025.
A second owner wrote, "Data analytics are very basic- doesn't allow you to do sourcing with key words". This was an individual Capterra opinion rated 2/5 on 15 February 2023.
For Workable, one reviewer wrote, "Our bill went from $99/mo, to $ $200+/mo, to $400/mo, and finally over $800/mo. for ONE job posting." This was an individual Trustpilot opinion rated 2/5 on 27 June 2026.
Another Workable reviewer wrote, "we're stuck with them for one more entire year." This was an individual Trustpilot opinion rated 2/5, posted 23 December 2025.

Method note: these are keyword-tagged low-star reviews, with an estimated tagging error of about 10 to 20%. Review sites have selection bias, and some reviews may describe older product versions. The Greenhouse sample has nine reviews and is especially thin.
What should you check in the contract before you pick?
A monthly price tells you little about the cost of leaving, renewing or adding the features your team needs. Before approval, get written answers to these points:
- What is the initial contract term?
- Does the agreement renew automatically?
- How many days before renewal must you give notice?
- Can the vendor increase the price at renewal, and when must it notify you?
- Are there minimum numbers of seats, jobs or employees?
- Which functions require paid add-ons or usage credits?
- What happens to your candidate records when the contract ends?
If the pricing page doesn't state a contract term or notice clause, don't infer one. Ask for both in writing. The guide to ATS contract renewal explains what to check before the signature date.
What if none of the three fits?
A team hiring fewer than 50 people a year may not need the process depth of Greenhouse, the CRM emphasis of Lever or Workable's full package. Curriculo is a fourth option with a different scope and published plans.
Starter is free forever and includes unlimited jobs and team members, with up to 1,000 ranked candidates. Pro is $50 per month early-bird, 50% off the $100 list price, with up to 10,000 ranked candidates. Enterprise pricing is custom. There are no per-seat fees.
Curriculo ATS scores every candidate from 0 to 100 against your job, with a written AI summary of the fit. Its agents are Email, Calendar, Daily briefing and Resume screening. You still decide who moves forward.

Frequently asked questions
Is Workable or Greenhouse better for a small business?
Workable may suit a small business that wants a published starting price and a defined package covering applicant tracking, careers pages and interview scheduling. Greenhouse may fit better when structured interview kits, scorecards and consistent evaluation matter more. Your answer depends on process depth, add-ons and the written contract terms.
Is Lever or Greenhouse easier to set up?
Neither vendor publishes a universal setup requirement. Greenhouse asks you to define stages, interview kits and scorecards. Lever may require more work if you plan to organize prospect relationships and CRM data. Ask both vendors to demonstrate setup using one of your real roles, then identify who on your team will maintain the system.
Which of Greenhouse, Lever and Workable publishes its pricing?
Workable publishes prices by company size band. For a company with 1 to 20 employees, Standard was $299 per month when checked 18 October 2026. Greenhouse uses customized pricing across Core, Plus and Pro. Lever says pricing is available upon request. Confirm all prices directly before signing.
Do Greenhouse, Lever and Workable require annual contracts?
The checked Greenhouse and Lever pricing pages don't provide enough public detail to state one contract rule for every buyer. Workable lists Premier and Enterprise prices as paid annually for the 1 to 20 employee band. For every vendor, ask for the term, renewal date and notice clause in writing.
What are the alternatives to Greenhouse, Lever and Workable for small teams?
Alternatives include products built around a narrower hiring process or a different pricing model. Curriculo offers Starter free forever, Pro at $50 per month early-bird and custom Enterprise pricing, with no per-seat fees. Compare candidate limits, interview workflows, integrations, reporting and contract terms against the work your team performs each month.
