The ATS pricing page you see is not the ATS pricing you pay. Every legacy vendor publishes a base price that represents 30 to 50% of what you’ll actually spend in year one. The other 50 to 70% hides in per-seat fees, implementation charges, add-on creep, and renewal increases. This page lays out the complete math with verified numbers.
Every figure comes from published pricing pages, industry reviews (SelectSoftwareReviews, ITQlick, Vendr, G2), or standard sales quotes.
The anatomy of SaaS creep
Before the vendor-specific breakdowns, here are the six cost components the base price usually hides:
1. Per-seat fees
Most legacy ATS platforms charge per team member per year. The fee ranges from $99 to $240 per seat. For a 50-person team, this adds $4,950 to $12,000 per year on top of the base. The larger your team grows, the more expensive your ATS gets, even if your hiring volume stays flat.
2. Implementation fees
Enterprise ATS platforms charge one-time implementation fees ranging from $3,000 to $5,000. This covers a dedicated implementation manager, a 2 to 4 week onboarding, training, and data migration. Workable and Manatal skip this. Greenhouse and Ashby charge it.
3. Add-on inflation
Features that sound core to recruiting (video interviews, SMS reminders, candidate sourcing, reporting, CRM) are often add-ons priced separately. Workable charges +$99/month for video and +$79/month for SMS. Greenhouse charges extra for sourcing and locks CRM behind higher tiers. Lever reports 40 to 60% add-on inflation over base quotes.
4. Renewal increases
Greenhouse increases prices 8 to 15% annually. Workable increases 8 to 9%. These increases compound. A $25,000 year-one bill becomes $27,000+ in year two and $29,700+ in year three. An extra $7,000 over three years on top of what you originally agreed to.
5. Integration and API costs
Premium integrations, API access, and custom reporting are often gated behind Enterprise tiers. Greenhouse locks CRM behind Advanced/Expert. Lever locks custom reporting behind Enterprise. These upgrades can double or triple your annual spend.
6. Third-party dependencies
Some ATS are functionally incomplete without specific third-party tools. Lever’s sourcing workflow is incomplete without LinkedIn Recruiter ($8,000-$10,000/seat/year). Greenhouse integrates with dozens of paid add-ons that most customers end up buying. These costs don’t appear on the ATS invoice but they’re real.
Vendor-by-vendor TCO breakdown
Greenhouse: $25,000+ per year for a 50-person startup
Base: $12,000/yr Essential tier. Advanced and Expert run $20,000-$50,000+/yr.
Per-seat: $240/seat/yr × 50 = $12,000/yr
Implementation (one-time, amortized Year 1): $4,000
CRM: locked behind Advanced/Expert if you need candidate CRM for nurturing
Sourcing add-on: ~$5,000/yr for 10 seats
Annual renewal: 8-15%, compounding
Year 1 realistic total: $33,000. Year 3 cumulative: $105,000+.
Lever: $15,000+ per year with hidden dependencies
Base: Sales-gated, no public rates. Estimated $6,000+/yr for the ATS tier.
Add-on inflation: 40-60% over base
LinkedIn Recruiter dependency: $8,000-$10,000/seat/year for meaningful sourcing
Custom reporting: locked behind Enterprise tier
Year 1 realistic total (without LinkedIn): $12,000-$18,000
With LinkedIn as needed for full workflow: $20,000-$30,000+
Lever is owned by Employ Inc., which also owns JazzHR and Jobvite. A private equity HR tech rollup. Platform stability and data sovereignty are real concerns for long-term customers.
Workable: $12,000 per year with headcount penalties
Cross the 20-employee threshold and your Workable bill jumps 67% in some tiers. This happens at renewal with zero warning. Startups hit this exactly when cash is tightest.
Base: $4,800/yr Standard tier. Starter at $149/mo is capped at 2 active jobs.
Per-seat: $99/seat/yr × 50 = $4,950/yr
Add-on creep: +$99/mo video + $79/mo SMS = $2,136/yr
Annual renewal: 8-9%
Year 1 realistic total (25-person team, full add-ons): $11,886. Year 3: $38,000+.
Workable’s 2.8/10 pricing satisfaction score in industry reviews reflects the gap between advertised price and real cost.
Ashby: $12,000 per year for strong analytics
Base: $6,000/yr + $120/seat × 50 = $12,000/yr
Implementation: minimal but not zero
Analytics: genuinely strong, one of Ashby’s real advantages
Year 1 realistic total (50-person team): $12,000. Year 3: $36,000+.
Ashby targets Series A+ startups. For seed or bootstrapped teams, the $120/seat scaling is painful as headcount grows.
CurriculoATS: $1,200 per year with no hidden costs
Starter: $0/yr forever. 1 active job. Unlimited team members. All features. No credit card.
Pro: $100/month flat = $1,200/yr. Currently $50/month during early bird = $600/yr. Unlimited jobs. Unlimited team members. Priority support.
Enterprise: Custom. Everything in Pro plus Full API access, SSO/SAML, custom integrations, dedicated account manager, SLA.

What the numbers mean
At 50 employees, CurriculoATS Pro is 10x cheaper than the cheapest legacy alternative (Ashby) at regular price and 20x cheaper during early bird. Compared to Greenhouse, it’s 30 to 60x cheaper over three years.
This math doesn’t account for quality differences. Curriculo’s outcome-based AI with written reasoning is substantively better than legacy keyword matching for most hiring scenarios. So the real comparison is: pay 30 to 60x more for an inferior product, or pay 0.02x the cost for a better product.
The ROI of switching
If you’re currently on a legacy ATS, the Year 1 savings are straightforward:
- From Greenhouse (50-person team): ~$32,000
- From Lever: $12,000-$20,000
- From Workable: $11,000-$13,000
- From Ashby: $11,000
Plus you get better AI (outcome-based reasoning vs keyword matching), faster setup (15 minutes vs 2-4 weeks), and flat pricing you can budget accurately for multiple years.
The migration itself is about an hour of active work. Export candidate CSV from your old ATS, upload to Curriculo, recreate active jobs. Curriculo handles the AI scoring automatically on imported candidates.
